Film Review – Thor: Ragnarok

Hi everyone! I hope you all doing very well!! If you have been following our social media accounts then you’ll know that we’ve been filming in Florida over the last couple of weeks. Because of this we haven’t been able to do anything else on the blog since it started. We probably should’ve waited until after our Florida trip to launch the blog but we were too excited to get it up and running. Florida was amazing and we all had a lot of fun. We got a lot of footage in the can and it’s being edited as we speak. You’ll all get to see a very soon!

As we discussed in out last post, we want to do weekly film reviews. This week we were not short on films to review. We had a lot of time to kill on the plane ride to Florida from New Zealand. There were a lot of new films to choose from on Air New Zealand. I got to catch up on quite a few films I missed out on when they were in cinemas. We watched “Love Simon”, “Red Sparrow”, “Black Panther”, “Rogue One”, “The Last Jedi” and the topic of this week’s film review, “Thor: Ragnarok”.

“Thor: Ragnarok” revisits Asgard and continues on from the events that happen in the last Thor film, “Thor: The Dark World”. Loki is pretending to be Odin; Odin is imprisoned somewhere and Thor still refuses to be King. In this film, Thor and Loki work to save Asgard and the rest of the Universe from being destroyed by their older exiled sister, Hela the Goddess of Death; who has been imprisoned for years by Odin as she was too powerful to control.

I really enjoyed the third Thor film and not just because it’s part of the Avengers brand. I thought it was a really good combination of what a Hollywood Blockbuster should be as well as being able to see the director’s style clearly. This film has all the action that each of the Avengers movies have. It was action-packed with explosions, to-the-death fights and of course a lot of lightning strikes. However it was the classic New Zealand humor that made the film for me. This film had an air of lightness and fun that no other Avenger’s film has. Even though the film surrounds a narrative that is the ending of the universe, you can’t help but laugh at all the brilliant placed funnies.

I have been a fan of the director, Taika Waititi, for years from “Boy” to “What we do in the Shadows”. Just by watching the movie you could tell straight away who made this film. From the slap-stick comedy to crude jokes, I was laughing the whole way through. But, at the same time, it never lost any of its Marvel trademark superhero tendencies. I commend Taika for this film. It’s not easy to make a sequel; most sequels aren’t very good however this film was better than Thor: The Dark World because it stands apart of the first original Thor film and I think it is all down to the Taika flare and comedy he put into this film.

Talking about sequels, I always find it funny how storylines evolve and change from the original film. Thor: Ragnarok is no exception. I love that out of nowhere, Thor and Loki now have an older sister they never knew about. But that is the beauty of film-making and sequels. You can just add these elements to the story to create whole new stories to be told.

Overall, if you’re looking for a good laugh and also some action, this is the film for you. If you haven’t seen it yet, you’re missing out. It’s definitely a must watch film.

Check back in next week as our review will be on the Incredibles 2.

And so the Adventure Begins

Welcome to the official blog for Mean Productions! Not that there are any unofficial blogs out there, we aren’t that popular yet!

Who are we?

Mean Productions is an amateur production company connecting people through media. We aim to produce high quality digital content in a unique environment. This blog will give us the opportunity to connect with you, the viewers. We plan to post updates, film reviews and exciting stories weekly. This all started because of my love for film and television. This is what I love to do and it is all I ever want to do with my life.

Last December I was encouraged to start making short videos which I have posted on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjb4sEBZjLvz5TT4lTyAydw?view_as=subscriber) here you can see some of my films.

After years of studying and working in the corporate world, this has helped me re-connect with my passion for film-making. It’s taken me just over six months to finally get to the stage we are at.

Where to from here?

Well I quit my job. As of Friday 8th June, I will have no stable income. I am free as a bird to now fully concentrate and commit to my future dreams to be a part of the film and media industry. And it all starts here, with a small production company run out of a residential home in Wellington, New Zealand.

We have so many plans and we are so excited to get fully stuck in! I am not sure where we will end up but that’s life!

I’m off to Orlando next week for a holiday and to visit family so watch out for my “Disney” infused content…..And so the adventure begins.
